How does it work?
After you order your kit you will receive it in the mail within a week. Your package will come in a box in a plastic insert so that it does not get damaged. There will be a few things you need to do before collecting your sample. I have listed the steps and details below. Once you've collected your sample you send it back to the laboratory in a prepaid envelope and when the results are complete, they will be sent to you via the website.
STEP 1
FILL IN THE DETAILS ON THE INNER LABEL
When you open your kit you will have a label located on the inside of the box. This label will have your test type, an alphabetical code, a numerical code, a barcode, and three things you will need to fill out. I would recommend filling this out right before or right after you administer the test. You will be filling in the sample collection date, your date of birth, and your gender. This information is necessary and assures that your test will be properly identified when reaching the lab. There will be a card inside with the same alpha code and numerical code that you will need to keep to help you access or track your sample. Once you figure out what time you will be administering your test, you will need to go to the website www.letsgetchecked.com and activate your test.
STEP 2
ACTIVATING YOUR TEST
When activating your test, you will be asked a series of questions. This may take up to five minutes depending on how fast you are with computers. The system will want to know the codes located in the box , when you plan on taking the test and some standard health assessment questions. Once you activate your kit, you can proceed to step number 3.
STEP 3
COLLECTING YOUR SAMPLE
Depending on the type of test you are requesting, there may be different collection items in your box. The majority of the tests are taken from blood samples so I will be explaining how this particular test works. The collection system works by pricking your finger with a lancet and filling the test tube with the blood from your finger. What is a lancet? A lancet is a small, sharp needle, enclosed in plastic, that pricks your finger once pressure is applied to the outer surface of the plastic. This works the same way as a diabetic or cholesterol test you would take at home. The kit comes with:
Two alcohol swabs
2 Bandaids
2 Moist wipes
4 Lancets
1 Biohazard bag
1 Return Envelope
There is a pamphlet located in the box with the instructions on how to collect your sample. PLEASE READ. There are specifications on how to do this properly so that you get the most accurate results. Because the test tube needs a good amount of blood you may have to prick your finger several times to get the amount requested. If you do not fill the tube up to the top line your sample will be rejected by the lab. A good way to make sure you get enough blood out of your finger is to make sure your hands are warm and you're arms are hanging down so that the blood flows with gravity. For best results have someone help you administer the test. Once you have collected your sample and the tube is FULL, place the top on the tube and press firmly until you hear a click. Then turn the tube upside down and then upright ten times to slowly mix the contents.
STEP 4
PLACE SAMPLE IN BIOHAZARD BAG AND THEN BACK INTO THE BOX
STEP 5
PLACE BOX INTO RETURN ENVELOPE AND DROP OFF AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO YOUR NEAREST POST OFFICE.
You should receive an email within a few days letting you know that your sample has been received and the results will take a few days to process. Once the results are processed you will receive another email alerting you to sign in to your account to view the results.
